Navigator software

Navigator is a fleet operations software package from DNV GL that simplifies port clearance procedures and ensures that the crew have the information needed for any port in plenty of time before the ship arrives at it. The system has been recognised by the industry as the tool that offers the most comprehensive and all-in-one database, with worldwide port information, regulations, procedures and port clearance forms.

“Ever since the tool was introduced back in 2002, our intention has been to ease the process of port clearance. Navigator is “an all in one” system reducing paperwork with more than 90% related to port arrival and departure,” says Odd Arne Haueng, DNV GL. “The captain and his crew’s main focus should be on safe and sound navigation – not on paperwork and bureaucracy.”

Based on almost ten years of experience and close to 2,000 ships of all types and sizes using the tool, it has been shown that the amount of paperwork is reduced by up to 90%.

Information about all the main ports and terminals is updated in Navigator. More than 1,200 port clearance forms containing ship information are pre-filed. Navigator also contains tailor-made checklists, a comprehensive nautical library, relevant data logs for the rapid reporting of forms, environmental documentation and detailed references to relevant regulations – amongst other things.

The HS Chopin – and a significant number of the other 1,999 vessels – will also use the passage planning and work and rest hours reporting functions, which are the latest additional support available through Navigator.

HS Chopin

The HS Chopin is a 3,500 TEU container vessel owned by Hansa Shipmanagement in Hamburg. The vessel was built by Korea’s STX in 2007 and flies the Liberian flag.

The final handover from DNV GL to the owner was managed by Lawicki Marek, the Master of the HS Chopin, and Jörg Langkabel, DNV GL, Germany.

“I’m really looking forward to using this impressive tool. The tests we have done and the experience we have gained have been very positive. I found this program to be the best of its type that I have seen,” Lawicki Marek said at the formal handover.
